We all have those days.
We’re tired, we don’t feel good, and we just don’t want to work out! Did you know the hardest part is just getting to the gym? Once you make the choice to “Just show up” you’ve already completed the toughest step. Because, more than likely, once you are there and your blood starts rushing, the endorphins kick in, you WILL be feeling it.
Pack your clothes the night before to take to work with you the next day. Or lay your clothes out next to your bed if you plan on working out first thing in the AM. If you’re working out after work, go straight to the gym. If you risk going home first to change, it will be much harder to get back out. If you’re working out first thing in the AM, only allow yourself one alarm. Get up right away. Grab those clothes next to your bed, throw them on, do some quick stretches to wake up and then GO.
“Your body can stand almost anything. It’s your mind you have to convince.”
Another thing that will help is to plan your workouts ahead of time. Know what you’re going to do when you get to the gym. This will ensure you don’t get there and aimlessly hop around to random exercises. There must be a purpose, so define it.
Lastly, another way to ensure that you show up, is accountability. Whether your meeting a friend there or your trainer, this is HUGE. If you’re struggling with consistently making it to the gym and getting your workouts in, you NEED this. My clients tell me all the time that if I wasn’t there waiting for them, they wouldn’t have made it today. They weren’t feeling good or didn’t get much sleep the night before. But you know what? EVERY client that felt that way when they walked in for our session, felt 100 times better after and were SO glad they didn’t bail. So, don’t go at it alone.
