Christmas is 3 days away, can you believe it?!

If you live in Texas, you can probably agree that it feels nothing like Christmas…but, I’ll take sunny and 70 degrees any day of the year!

Everyone can agree that with the holidays comes lots of tempting treats…one of my favorite… CHRISTMAS COOKIES! There are the sugar cookie cutouts with icing on top, the peanut butter blossoms with the hershey’s kiss in the middle, and the gingerbread man, just to name a few! And not to mention all the other indulgences around the holidays like a turkey feast, pies galore, and all the cheese, wine, and hors d’oeuvres at everyone’s holiday parties.

So I know you’re probably thinking, how can I enjoy this time of the year, and still move forward in reaching my goals? EAT THAT COOKIE. Yes, I said it. The WORST thing you can do for yourself, is deprive yourself. Not only is it detrimental for your mental and physcological health, but it’s also bad for your social health. When you fall into the trap of dieting and food restrictions, it limits the social situations you allow yourself to be apart of. It causes you to stress out even more which can then lead to binge eating, and if we are being honest, it’s just not MAINTAINABLE.

I want to speak to the ladies in particular real quick.

First of all, YOU are beautiful. YOU, right now, just the way you are.

Second of all, your body, whatever shape or size, doesn’t define who YOU are. As you are on this journey towards improving your health, you have to remember that you don’t have to be perfect. I’ve seen so many girls beat themselves up constantly and restrict themselves from anything that wasn’t veggies & salad (no dressing, of course). I’ve seen them not attend social gatherings because they didn’t want to eat or drink. And then I’ve seen them break down and eat and eat until they felt ashamed and hated themselves. Then the cycle continues. Yes, I’ve been there myself before, and let me tell you, THERE IS A BETTER WAY.

That being said, don’t stress this week and enjoy that Christmas cookie! Yes, be mindful of what you are eating and listen to your body, but also enjoy those treats you really like. Did you know you can still reach your goals, without having to restrict certain foods? It really just comes down to knowing how much of each macronutrient your body needs in a day. Once you know that, then you have SO much flexibility when it comes to your food choices.
