If you know me, you know I LOVE a good massage.
With training hard and being on my feet most of the day, I prioritize rest and recovery and getting a massage a couple times a month is something my body craves.
Here are just a few benefits of massage:
- Relief of anxiety
- Pain relief
- Stress relief
- Improved blood circulation
- Improved functioning of the urinary and digestive systems
- Aid with recovery and muscle soreness
This past weekend I had the privilege to visit Riviera Spa in Dallas, located in the Travis Walk near Knox/Henderson. First of all, I love that location! It’s convenient (right off 75) and easy to get to. I’ve actually been in that area a lot, as one of my favorite restaurants, Zizikis is just a couple doors down, but didn’t even know there was a beautiful spa inside.
I booked a Signature Wellness Massage (50 min) for a Friday because after a week of workouts and training, I love to kick off the weekend with a little R&R. Lately, I’ve been having a lot of upper back and neck tightness and have been having to spend some extra time working on mobility, addressing my weaknesses and tight areas, and modifying a few of my workouts.
When I arrived, the receptionist was very friendly and offered me a drink of my choice: a glass of champange or cucumber infused water. Then she led me to a cozy and dim-lit lounge area where I could relax for a few minutes until my massage. My masseuse, Lisa Marie arrived shortly after and led me to my room. She sat down with me and asked how I was feeling, what I wanted her to focus on today and what massage oils I prefer. I told her I would like full body, with some extra attention on my neck, shoulders, and upper back. I chose the lavendar citrus oil, which smelled AMAZING.
Lisa was wonderful. I loved that she used a heating pad on my upper back and neck to warm up those muscles before she worked on them. It felt great!! What is so nice about their Signature Wellness Massage, is it can be customized to what you want and need.
After the massage, it literally felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Going in, my neck, upper back, and shoulders felt a bit achy and tense, but when she was finished with me, it was like all that tension had melted away. If you are an athlete or you strength train regularly, I definitely recommend getting massages as part as your recovery. If you are have a demanding job and/or very stressed, a massage might be just what you need. If you are in the Dallas area, head to Riviera spa and they will take great care of you!
